Honest thoughts on faux thoughts

Like a lot of creatives, I am tired of seeing AI offered everywhere. I appreciate writing, I appreciate art, and I appreciate the hard work so many put into these crafts. I wish there was a big toggle switch I could throw to just cut it out of my life entirely. I recognize that makes me sound like a luddite, and maybe in time that will prove to be the case, but I’m hoping there is a resurgence coming. Hoping appreciation for handmade objects and organically thought thoughts will be on the rise for much of the rest of my working years.

It makes sense to me to use big data and AI for science and real number-crunching, new discoveries and the stuff that really is too big for our brains, but I’m aware that there’s a double standard here. For someone, that is their creative realm. I wonder what the true geniuses of the past, who were able to hold the universe in their minds and calculate distances and understand the stars before we had calculators, would think of where we are now. Maybe they’d be excited! But maybe they’d feel as suspicious as I do of AI’s infringement on my creative world.
