I found a wonderful lichen-covered stick on a hike near my parents’ house in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. I chased butterflies for awhile to capture the perfect pose of this guy, but the stick I brought home and actually sawed into 5 chunks. I was in an ink and watercolor class at the time, and this seemed like the perfect subject to try it out on! Several archival colored pens were used as well as watercolor and gouache. To me, it looks like the first few lines of a fantastic fairy tale in a children’s book. Original on 100% cotton paper.
